RECENT MEETING REVIEW
The Delaware County Retired Teachers Association met at 12 noon in the Compassion Center in Delaware. Members enjoyed box lunches from Rutherford Cafe followed by a program addressing the growth trends in Delaware County. Scott Sanders, the Executive Director of the Delaware County Regional Planning Commission, explained his responsibilities as well as how the commission works with the 18 townships and several agencies in the county to manage growth. Donations - money, dry and paper goods - were collected for People In Need of Delaware County. Member volunteer hours for the last three months were collected. A raffle was held at end of the meeting in which everyone received a prize. Numerous written material and fliers relating to Delaware County were available for members to take home. The next meeting will be on September 9, 2022

COMMUNITY SERVICE

MASK DONATION NEWS

The Delaware County Retired Teachers Association has donated a case of 500 disposable child masks to each of the 29 elementary schools in Delaware County. The DCRTA members want to let students, teachers and staff know that the retired teachers are thinking of them as they navigate these uncertain educational times. The cases of masks were delivered to all
Delaware County elementary schools during the second week of January.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: DCRTA has partnered with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter. Use the Links button at the top of this page to access their website. It provides members with opportunities to assist in Habitat's work.

Local chapter involvement and photos above:
In the photos above Carolyn Kneisly, President of The Delaware County Retired Teachers Association, presents books to children of three of the most recent Habitat for Humanity of Delaware & Union Counties homeowners. Both homes are located in Delaware.

History: In 2016, after speaking to local Habitat officials who indicated they needed books for children of home owners, DCRTA embarked on a group project to gift a book to each child moving into a new Habitat house in Delaware County. For the past few years DCRTA has purchased age appropriate books focused on homes and shelter for various age levels. Recently members have augmented our supply by donating books at meetings. DCRTA is proud to join other chapters across Ohio in this collaborative effort to help those in need.

NOTE: During the pandemic Habitat for Humanity continued to build homes but the dedications have been for families only. DCRTA stored our books at the Habitat office and suggested that they present a book to the children in our stead.
